Devote 67 minutes of your time on 18 July to helping others.

67 minutes is an easy thing to give when you consider that it represents one minute of every year that Nelson Mandela spent making the country a better place. 18th of July is about uniting and making a gesture that leaves a lasting and positive impact. If we all do our bit to help those in need we will be a step closer to achieving what Nelson Mandela hoped and strived for in South Africa.

Mandela Day is a day where we focus on doing good for others, and there are endless ways to take part. Have you decided how you will spend your 67 minutes? If your company hasn’t arranged a charity outing, do not worry! Use your lunch break and head to a local animal shelter – dogs and cats without homes need love and cuddles too, or go and read or chat to the elderly at an old-age home or go assist at an orphanage. We guarantee your time will be appreciated.

Here are a few more ways to spend your Mandela Day:

  1. Simply make a new friend – is there someone at your school, work or in your neighbourhood that could use a friend? Get to know them, because it’s through mutual understanding that our communities can prosper.
  2. Help someone learn a new skill or prepare them to enter the world of job searching by assisting them with their CV and interview skills.
  3. Go to a clinic and get tested for HIV, and encourage your friends and partner to do so.
  4. Offer to take someone who you know can’t afford it to the doctor for a checkup, for an eye test or to the dentist.
  5. Gather all the clothes, blankets and linen you no longer use and drop them off at a local shelter.

We at Bankmed will be visiting a local orphanage and be handing out our care packages with essential products.
